Fears of Ebola Cancel Scheduled International Matches in Morocco

African sports media reports indicated that a number of international friendly matches scheduled in Morocco during the international break in June have been canceled due to health concerns related to the Ebola virus.

The website Afrik-Foot mentioned that the cancellations included matches for African teams that were supposed to play friendlies in Morocco, including encounters for the Ugandan national team against both Tanzania and Madagascar.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) clarified, according to media reports, that the Ugandan team had already arrived in Morocco before they were informed of the decision to cancel the matches, noting that the decision was made for public health reasons, without providing additional details.

Other sports sources also spoke about the cancellation or modification of a number of friendly matches that were scheduled in Morocco, which included teams from Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Comoros Islands, as part of what was described as precautionary measures related to health concerns in certain areas of the African continent.

In contrast, no official statement has been issued on the website of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to clarify the details of these decisions or confirm the number of matches that were canceled, which makes the circulated information primarily based on media reports and African football associations.

This development comes at a time when several countries are dealing with epidemic risks through precautionary measures when organizing international sporting events, especially regarding large-scale sports gatherings.
