The Bank of Morocco will meet on Tuesday, December 16, for the fourth and final time in the year 2025, to decide on the main interest rate. This concerns loans and bank financings of all types, as well as citizens’ deposits and savings.
In its expectations regarding this matter, the research center “BMC Capital Global Research” (BKGR) stated that the central bank is likely to prefer maintaining the interest rate for the second time. This is aimed at solidifying gains and preserving the margin of maneuver in 2026, which is expected to coincide with the transition to an inflation targeting system.
The center noted that this meeting comes in a diverse context, characterized by a national economy demonstrating confirmed dynamism, reflected in strengthened growth, controlled inflation, and favorable performance indicators. On the other hand, there is an international environment still marked by geopolitical and geo-economic uncertainty, which obscures the outlook in the short term.
The center also conducted an opinion poll that included a number of Moroccan institutional investors to survey their views on the development of the kingdom’s monetary policy.
The survey revealed a sharp division in expectations regarding the decision of the Bank of Morocco’s board. Fifty percent of respondents favored keeping the interest rate unchanged, while the other fifty percent anticipated a reduction.
Additionally, a large majority of respondents (80 percent) considered that the targeted main interest rate for the central bank in 2026 would be around 2 percent.
Moreover, 100 percent of those surveyed confirmed that they intend to prefer the stock market in allocating their assets, taking into account their expectations of monetary policy.
