Following the red alert issued by the Directorate of Meteorology, which predicts heavy thunderstorm rains and significant snowfall in several regions of Morocco, the Ministry of Equipment and Water stated that some roadways in the regions affected by this weather warning may experience disruptions in traffic. This is expected to start from Monday night until Wednesday, February 4.
The Ministry of Equipment, in a statement, urged all road users to exercise caution and carefulness while traveling and during their movements.
The ministry added that in such weather conditions and in its commitment to the safety of citizens, it calls on all road users to take the utmost precautions during this period, when traveling to, from, or through the affected regions.
It also recommended avoiding nighttime travel and preparing in advance for the journey, including checking the mechanical condition of vehicles, tire pressure, brakes, lighting, wipers, and windscreen washer fluid, ensuring sufficient fuel, and the condition of the air conditioning. Caution should especially be taken on routes that may be subject to flooding, such as low-lying areas and river crossing points.
The ministry also urged not to take risks by crossing on foot during high water levels at floodable sidewalks. It emphasized not speeding and avoiding any overtaking or sudden maneuvers. Maintaining a safe distance between vehicles is crucial.
The ministry emphasized the necessity for drivers to respect traffic signs, as well as to comply with the instructions of local authorities and the teams from the regional directorates of the ministry, which are continuously present on the affected roadways to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
For more information, the ministry has provided a phone number for citizens to contact the continuity center of the General Directorate of Roads. It is as follows: 17 17 71 37 05.
