🔥The End of the Sand Dunes Era in Tetouan.. Determining the Transition Program to the New Hospital

On Friday, June 5, 2026, a decisive meeting was held at the Saniy al-Raml Hospital administration, under the supervision of Dr. Karim Belmakdoun, the national general secretary of the National Union for Public Health (a founding member of the Democratic Federation of Labor), with the presence of the Human Resources Director from the Ministry of Health representing the minister, the General Director of the regional health group in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, and the head of the urban area representing the provincial governor, along with directors of the health sector, equipment, and representatives of the union organizations.

During the meeting, which lasted more than six hours, a phased transition plan was agreed upon, beginning practically from Saturday, June 6, 2026, with a joint field visit to the new hospital including the ministerial delegation, union offices, department heads, and chief nurses.

The actual transfer of the departments will continue from Tuesday, June 9 to Friday, June 19, 2026, according to a precise schedule that prioritizes the transfer of “cold services” first, while maintaining simultaneous operation of some services between the two hospitals during the transitional phase to ensure that healthcare services for the residents of Tetouan and its surroundings do not cease.

A regional committee was announced to monitor the transition process under the supervision of local health administration, in partnership with the unions, with direct oversight from the regional health group and the central administration of the ministry.

The meeting focused significantly on the constraints related to human resources. It was confirmed that:

  • The new hospital will be strengthened with new job positions.
  • The door will be opened for voluntary relocation.
  • Frameworks will be redistributed according to needs.
  • Administrative and financial situations will be regularized.
  • Delayed specialty compensation payments for specialist doctors (payments for 2023-2024-2025) will be disbursed.

The regional office of the National Union for Public Health described these outcomes as a “genuine response” to the demands of health workers expressed in the previous protest statement, considering the meeting a success in easing social tension.

The new regional specialty hospital features advanced infrastructure and modern medical and nursing equipment, making it part of the new generation of healthcare institutions that the state aims to generalize. Participants at the meeting praised the efforts made by professionals and management to ensure the success of this significant project, which aims to bring specialized services closer to citizens and enhance health offerings in the region.

The regional office of the union called on all health workers to “unite and engage positively” in ensuring the success of the transition process, affirming that it will organize an extensive communication meeting with all frameworks during the upcoming week to share updates and continue advocating for legitimate demands.

On behalf of the regional office, union representatives confirmed that this project “serves the interests of citizens and preserves the dignity and rights of health professionals.”
