The Independence Party in Tangier decided to refer its member and advisor of the Benimakada district, Jamal Al-Awami, to a disciplinary committee after he made statements described as chaotic and immoral.
Throughout May, Al-Awami broadcast live on Facebook, making statements against the party’s leaders and officials, especially in Tangier, before launching an attack on the president of the Benimakada district, Mohamed Al-Hamami, and the party’s parliamentarian.
Al-Awami described Al-Hamami as “crazy,” stating that he uses drugs to be able to sleep and that he has driven his family and friends to madness, expressing astonishment at the Independence Party’s continued endorsement of him despite his condition.
In light of these statements, the party’s inspection in Tangier stated on Friday that it is following with regret and condemnation the media appearances and chaotic statements issued by Benimakada district member Jamal Al-Awami, which have been characterized by improvised and irresponsible words lacking the political and ethical responsibility imposed by the laws and regulations of the venerable Independence Party.
The inspection stated that “the positions and outings issued by the concerned member ‘do not oblige the party in any way,’ and do not, in any form, express the party’s official political line or organizational directions of the Independence Party.”
It added that these chaotic statements and actions that result in uncalculated consequences primarily harm the individual involved, revealing a desire to create unnecessary media noise far removed from the concerns and expectations of the residents of the Benimakada district specifically and the city of Tangier in general.
In light of this situation, the inspection announced the referral of the mentioned member’s file to the party’s specialized arbitration and monitoring bodies (the regional arbitration and disciplinary committee) to take the necessary legal measures in accordance with the Independence Party’s foundational law.
