The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations, affiliated with the General Directorate for National Territory Surveillance, succeeded in a joint and simultaneous security operation with the General Commission for Information (CGI) of the Spanish National Police, this Wednesday morning, in dismantling a terrorist cell loyal to the “ISIS” organization, consisting of three extremist elements active between the two countries.
The field interventions resulted in the arrest of two individuals in the city of Tangier by members of the special forces affiliated with the General Directorate for National Territory Surveillance, while the Spanish authorities arrested the leader of the cell in the city of Mallorca.
The Role of the Two Arrested Elements in Tangier
Initial investigation results indicate that the two arrested individuals in Morocco played a fundamental and direct role in providing financing and logistical support to fighters active in the branches of the “ISIS” organization in the Sahel region south of the Sahara and Somalia.
This support included facilitating the transfer of funds and material and logistical assistance to enhance the capabilities of these terrorist branches in active areas.
The Role of the Leader of the Cell Arrested in Mallorca
As for the leader of the cell, who was arrested by the Spanish authorities, he is suspected of being primarily involved in planning to carry out a terrorist operation within Spanish territory, according to the “individual terrorism” methods that the organization has recently adopted.
