The French magazine VSD published in its weekly issue on Thursday, January 29, an investigation titled “International Islamic Terrorism: Morocco on the Front Line.” It addressed Morocco’s growing role in confronting terrorism, as the magazine confirmed that the kingdom has become a strategic partner for European and Western countries in the field of combating extremism and maintaining security.
The investigation confirmed that Morocco has developed an advanced security network that includes the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) and the Anti-Terrorism Unit (BCIJ), capable of monitoring and dismantling terrorist cells before executing any attack. VSD explained that this network relies on modern surveillance and inquiry technologies, with specialized teams in intelligence analysis and threat management.
The investigation highlights Morocco’s significant role in international coordination to combat terrorism, through the periodic exchange of intelligence information with European and international partners. Morocco is considered a connecting point between Europe and Africa, allowing it to track cross-border terrorist groups and neutralize their threats before they reach their targets.
The investigation emphasized that Morocco’s strategy is not limited to the security aspect but also includes preventive programs in education and youth, as well as moderate religious initiatives, aiming to curb the spread of extremist ideology and promote values of moderation. This ensures the protection of society from extremism before it transforms into a tangible security threat.
The investigation also highlighted Morocco’s contribution to dismantling cells linked to international terrorist groups, including the “Islamic State,” through precise and ongoing intelligence operations. VSD confirmed that Moroccan authorities succeeded in arresting extremist elements and neutralizing threats that targeted the Maghreb region and Europe, enhancing Morocco’s position as a reliable security partner at the international level.
The investigation also confirmed that Morocco has become a model in confronting transnational terrorism, thanks to the combination of local intelligence capabilities and intensive international cooperation. The Moroccan experience has demonstrated the state’s ability to respond quickly to evolving threats and protect internal security, providing a commendable example at the regional and international levels.
