The Armed Forces Continue to Rescue Families Trapped in the Floods of Ksar el Kebir

The evacuation operations for residents affected by the floods that have hit many neighborhoods in the city of Alcazar Kbir due to heavy rainfall and the rising water levels of the Loukos River are continuing. This is taking place amidst coordinated measures and collaboration among various rescue teams from the Royal Armed Forces, regional authorities, and civil protection.

The ongoing field interventions, uninterrupted since last Tuesday, encompass all low-lying neighborhoods close to the banks of the Loukos River, which has received record water loads over the past weeks, especially with the Al-Makhazens Dam completely full at 100 percent, and the wave height preventing the normal drainage of rainwater into the sea.

The Maghreb Arab Press Agency observed a unit for rescue and relief from the military engineering corps, part of the Royal Armed Forces, implementing continuous field interventions in the neighborhoods located on both sides of Liberation Street (Larache road), to evacuate a number of citizens who have remained trapped in their homes.

With great precision and military discipline, the members of the walking unit, including divers, first explored the area, then sent a rescue boat capable of navigating in shallow waters to evacuate the affected residents and their belongings, taking them to safety.

The unit members maneuvered the boat in slightly deep waters before they, with a high sense of humanity, proceeded to descend into the shallow water, encircling it and gently pushing it to bring it to the nearest point of dry land.

In the same area, a unit belonging to civil protection joined, which includes divers and paramedics, and is equipped with a rescue boat to support the ongoing field efforts to protect the safety and property of citizens.

After the unit reached the flooded areas, one of the civil protection members began sounding alarms to draw attention to the fact that the rescue boat was on-site, then communicated directly with the citizens to coordinate the evacuation process for them and their belongings.

Thereafter, the civil protection members assisted the citizens forced to leave their homes, helping them carry their luggage and board, and then provided them with life jackets before the boat set off on the return journey to the nearby safe areas.

A number of volunteers have spared no effort to support the efforts of the rescue units, as several truck and tractor owners have stepped in to assist citizens stranded in flooded areas at lower levels, in an initiative reflecting the spirit of solidarity and harmony in the field interventions.

A number of citizens reported, in statements collected by the Maghreb Arab News Agency, that the relief, rescue, and protection efforts have helped alleviate the severity of the damages caused by the water that submerged many neighborhoods in the city. They highlighted that public authorities dealt with a great deal of proactivity and seriousness in such exceptional climatic conditions, which the city has not witnessed for more than three decades.
