The Senegalese Football Federation announced its acceptance of the sanctions imposed by the African Football Confederation on it and on the players and coach of the national team, following their causing chaos in the Africa Cup final against Morocco.
The federation stated on Saturday that it informed CAF of its desire not to appeal the sporting and financial sanctions issued against it. This concession includes not challenging the individual disciplinary actions targeting the coach and players of the national team.
The federation mentioned that it bears full financial responsibility concerning the fines imposed on the federation, the technical staff, and its players.
According to the federation, it insists on defending its rights and legitimate interests within the governing bodies of football, while working to enhance the regulations of the African Football Confederation, the integrity of the game, and the prominence of African football.
Sanctions that Encourage Chaos
The Disciplinary Committee of the African Confederation faced widespread criticism, considering that the sanctions were lenient compared to what the Senegalese federation and its team attempted in undermining a major African football event. This followed the coach’s call to withdraw from the final match in protest against a refereeing decision.
