Due to severe weather fluctuations.. the authorities in Morocco urge citizens to avoid travel.

The authorities in Morocco have called on all road users to exercise caution and vigilance, and have urged citizens to postpone travel except in cases of necessity. This comes in light of the warning bulletin issued by the Directorate of Meteorology, which forecasts heavy thunderstorms and significant snowfall in several regions from Thursday to Monday, January 22 to 26.

The Ministry of Equipment and Water stated in a press release that in such weather conditions coinciding with the start of the school holiday, and in the interest of citizens’ safety, it urges all road users to postpone their movements during this period to, from, or through the regions mentioned in the warning bulletin except in cases of necessity.

They also advised avoiding night travel, as well as preparing in advance for travel by checking the mechanical condition of vehicles, including tire pressure, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, windshield washing fluid, adequate fuel supply, and air conditioning status.

The ministry also called for caution and vigilance, especially on routes that may be prone to flooding, such as depressions and crossings where roads pass through valleys and wadis. They advised against taking risks by crossing during elevated water levels on flood-prone sidewalks, and urged against excessive speeding, as well as any overtaking or sudden maneuvers, while respecting safe distances between vehicles.

The General Directorate of Meteorology had warned in an updated warning bulletin with an orange alert level that heavy rain, sometimes thunderstorms, snowfalls, and strong wind gusts are expected in several areas, including Tangier.
