Egyptian national team coach Ibrahim Hassan’s brother gave a poor rating to the Barceló hotel where the team stayed when they arrived in Tangier, saying it is “not a hotel but a guesthouse.”
Hassan told Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper that “the national team did not stay in a hotel, but in a guesthouse, as part of the accommodation arrangements before facing Senegal in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations.”
The statements from the Egyptian team manager, which were added to his brother’s remarks who engaged in a conflict with the audience and accused them of jealousy towards Egypt, “the mother of Africa and the Arabs and the boogeyman,” sparked widespread controversy, amid astonishment at the team’s deliberate remarks that insult the host country to justify their disastrous performance against Senegal that led to their exit from the Africa Cup.
