The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) announced the death of Senegalese student Aida Fay Samb, as a result of a horrific traffic accident that occurred on the highway linking Rabat and Kenitra.
The official Senegalese news agency reported that the deceased, a Senegalese student residing in Morocco, was on her way to the city of Tangier on Saturday, January 3, to support the Senegalese national team, the “Lions of Teranga,” in the round of 16 match against Sudan, as part of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco. The match ended with Senegal winning 3-1, thanks to two goals from Bapha Gueye and a goal from Ibrahim Mbaye, but the joy of qualifying for the quarter-finals was overshadowed by deep sorrow due to this tragic accident.
In an official statement released by the Senegalese Federation, it expressed its “deep pain” at the loss of Aida Fay Samb, confirming that she was traveling to support the national team. The statement said: “The Senegalese Football Federation offers its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, her relatives, and the entire Senegalese football family.” It also urged everyone to pray for her mercy and forgiveness.
Some reports indicate that the accident involved four Senegalese female students who were on their way to Tangier, resulting in Aida’s death and injuries to three others, one of whom is in a coma. This accident highlights the dangers of the roads, especially during the collective travels to support teams in such major tournaments.
