The local authorities in the Fez region reported that, in a preliminary tally, 19 people lost their lives, while 16 others sustained injuries of varying severity, due to the collapse of two adjacent buildings (four stories each), inhabited by 8 families, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday in the Al-Mustaqbal neighborhood, the urban area of Al-Massira in the city of Fez.
Immediately upon being notified of the incident, local and security authorities and civil protection services moved to the scene to initiate search and rescue operations, where all necessary measures were taken, including securing the vicinity of the collapsed buildings and evacuating the residents of the neighboring homes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the residents against any potential further dangers that might threaten their safety.
The local authorities added that the injured individuals were transported to the University Hospital Center in Fez to undergo necessary examinations and receive essential treatment, while search operations continue to rescue and assist other individuals who may be trapped under the rubble.
