The European Jewish Organization (EuroJewCong) welcomed the initiative launched by the Kingdom of Morocco to transform the site of Dar Moulay Al Hashim in Demnate into a center dedicated to Jewish culture.
The organization described the step as a “historic initiative reflecting Morocco’s ongoing commitment to preserving its cultural diversity and multiple identities.”
In a statement posted on its official accounts on Monday, November 3, the organization praised the vision led by King Mohammed VI regarding the preservation of Moroccan Jewish memory. It confirmed that the new project is part of a comprehensive policy aimed at restoring Jewish schools, synagogues, and cemeteries across Morocco.
It added that this cultural center, located near the recently renovated Jewish cemetery in Demnate, “will contribute to enhancing dialogue and cultural exchange, highlighting the depth of historical relations between Jews and Muslims in Morocco over the centuries.”
The organization emphasized that the Moroccan approach “provides a unique model in the Arab world for protecting Jewish heritage within a collective national identity.” It also commended the support of royal advisor André Azoulay and the Royal Commission for the restoration of Jewish cemeteries in implementing this vision.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication had previously announced the project as part of a broad national program for the protection of Moroccan Jewish heritage, reflecting the royal attention to the historical memory of the kingdom in all its components.
