On Monday, November 3, King Mohammed VI issued instructions to inaugurate the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Agadir.
The hospital spans an area of 30 hectares (127,000 square meters) and is located near the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.
The new Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Agadir, which has an investment of 3.1 billion dirhams and a total capacity of 867 beds, includes multiple departments (mother and child, medicine and surgery, radiology, cardiology, etc.), a central surgical wing (19 operating rooms), emergency rooms (5 rooms) for severe burns, a laboratory, a central pharmacy, and an integrated training and simulation system.
This university hospital is the first medical institution in Africa to incorporate robotic surgical technology, enabling minimally invasive surgical procedures with high precision, 3D viewing, and unprecedented comfort for both surgeons and patients.
The cardiology department at the university hospital includes two catheterization rooms and intensive care units equipped with multi-parameter monitoring devices, providing comprehensive care for patients with coronary artery diseases and heart rhythm disorders. The equipment, meeting international standards, allows for interventions such as angioplasty, electrophysiological exploration, and high-quality intravascular imaging.
Furthermore, to ensure patient safety and the quality of healthcare services, the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Agadir is equipped with a complete sterilization center (disinfectant, steam sterilization device, air-conditioned spaces to track equipment, and maximum safety for patients), as well as a central pharmacy equipped with a robot for medication distribution, ensuring safe preparation and automated delivery to hospital departments, marking a first at the regional level.
This new-generation reference hospital, which will serve around 3 million people, is set to enhance healthcare infrastructure in the Souss-Massa region, improve healthcare services, and bring them closer to citizens, who will no longer need to travel to other cities for complex surgical procedures or treatment of difficult medical cases.
