On Wednesday, Morocco participated in the official funeral held in Valencia in honor of the victims of the deadly floods that struck eastern and southern Spain in 2024, resulting in over 230 casualties.
The Kingdom was represented at the ceremony by Karima Benyaich, Morocco’s Ambassador to Spain, along with various Spanish dignitaries and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Madrid.
The official funeral was presided over by King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia, attended by high-ranking state officials and families of the victims, creating a solemn atmosphere filled with sorrow at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia.
In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, Benyaich emphasized that Morocco’s participation in this national tribute reflects “the Kingdom’s solidarity with friendly Spain during this painful time.”
She noted that Morocco expressed its full support for rescue and reconstruction efforts from the early hours following the disaster, highlighting the solidarity initiatives undertaken by the Moroccan community residing in Spain to aid those affected.
