On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the Spanish Navy launched a two-month mission as part of maritime presence, surveillance, and deterrence operations in strategic areas near northern Morocco. The operation encompasses the Rock of Alhucemas, the Fils de la Gomera, the Chafarinas Islands, Alboran Island, the Bay of Ceuta, and the coasts of Málaga, Ceuta, and Melilla.
During this period, according to Spanish media, the crew of the high-patrol vessel Vigía and its accompanying operational security team will conduct maritime surveillance near sensitive areas in northern Morocco, in the Atlantic Ocean, western Mediterranean Sea, and the Sea of Alboran.
The mission focuses on enhancing security and ensuring freedom of navigation in waters under Spanish sovereignty and strategically important areas. It reflects the Spanish Navy’s commitment to protecting national maritime domains and defending sovereignty in sensitive regions that combine trade routes, fishing interests, and border and environmental monitoring activities.
These operations serve as a key tool for the early detection of potential threats and provide an immediate response to any maritime crisis, ensuring the continued monitoring and securing of vital water bodies for national sovereignty.
