Moroccan Authorities Stop Russian Citizen’s Escape from Justice

On Saturday, October 25, Moroccan National Security forces at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca arrested a 34-year-old Russian citizen. This individual was subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the judicial authorities of the Russian Federation.

The suspect was detained immediately upon arrival on a flight from Mauritania. A check against the International Criminal Police Organization’s (Interpol) database revealed that he was wanted internationally at the request of the National Central Bureau in Moscow. He faces a prison sentence issued by the Russian courts due to suspicions of involvement with a terrorist organization.

Moroccan national security has placed the foreign citizen under provisional detention pending extradition, following instructions from the competent public prosecutor. The National Central Bureau of Interpol in Rabat has been tasked with notifying its counterpart in Russia regarding the arrest.

This arrest aligns with the commitment of Moroccan security agencies to enhance international security cooperation, particularly in pursuing and apprehending individuals wanted globally for transnational crimes.
