Complaint Exposes Humiliation, Abuse, and Torture at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Tangier

A shocking complaint received by “Tangier 7” has revealed systematic practices of humiliation, psychological, and physical torture within the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Tangier.

The complaint details that several internal doctors who passed the specialization exams have been subjected to degrading and humiliating treatment. It highlights the ongoing issue of “bizautage”—a term referring to initiation practices involving humiliation—within the faculty.

According to some victims, in a complaint directed to the Ministry of the Interior via the national complaints portal, which “Tangier 7” has also reviewed, they state: “We have been experiencing systematic psychological and physical torture since June 11, 2025, with the complicity of an administrator who witnesses the mistreatment of new students by older ones.”

The complaint outlines specific practices, including direct physical violence such as slapping, being pelted with eggs and water, and infliction of serious injuries. Victims also report verbal insults, sexual harassment at times, harsh physical punishments like standing on one leg for an hour, and unethical actions that violate dignity and privacy. Additionally, students endure exhausting shifts lasting up to 24 hours without rest.

The affected internal doctors have urged the faculty administration to protect its students and ensure their physical and mental well-being. They also called on the relevant authorities to conduct an urgent investigation and put an end to this institutional “bizautage,” which they claim is organized and supported by certain administrators.

It is noteworthy that after the Ministry of the Interior received the complaint discussed in this article, it deemed itself not responsible. In a response provided on Thursday, July 3, the ministry advised the tortured students to contact the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation.

The term “bizautage” refers to degrading and humiliating practices imposed on newcomers, particularly in academic or military settings, by more senior members. Although the apparent goal of “bizautage” is to integrate newcomers, it often crosses boundaries into a form of physical or psychological violence, and there are laws that criminalize such actions.
