A fire at the “Tarkantouchka” oasis in the Souss-Massa region has caused damage to over six hectares of date palm trees.
Ahmed Fadili, the regional director of the National Agency for Water and Forests in Souss-Massa, confirmed that the fire has been fully contained. The firefighting efforts were supported by local authorities and civil protection services, particularly in response to recent heat waves in the area.
Fadili stated that logistical resources, including tank trucks and firefighting equipment, were mobilized. Additionally, firebreaks were established to prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the oasis.
The National Agency for Water and Forests began implementing fire risk prediction maps from June 27 to July 4. These maps pinpoint vulnerable areas at risk for wildfires, using scientific data to enhance fire management nationwide.
Residents near forested areas, workers, and visitors are urged to exercise caution and refrain from activities that could ignite fires. They are also encouraged to report any smoke or suspicious behavior to local authorities immediately.
