On Sunday, June 29, a significant fire engulfed a large portion of the Sidi Walo cemetery in Asilah. This incident coincided with a heatwave in the region, accompanied by khamsin winds.
According to available information, the fire destroyed most of the cemetery’s area. Despite efforts from citizens, supported by the civil protection services and local authorities, they were unable to bring the blaze under control.
### Warning of Severe Fire Hazards
The National Agency for Water and Forests had designated the Tangier-Asilah region as a high-risk area for potential wildfires, effective from June 27 and expected to last until the following week.
This warning aligned with a specific alert issued by the agency, predicting a heatwave in the region from Saturday, June 28, through Monday, June 30. The heatwave was intensified by warm khamsin winds, resulting in a significant rise in temperatures across Tangier and the surrounding areas. Additionally, another fire was reported in the nearby region of Hedd Ghazala during the same period.
