A court in Tangier has sentenced two young men to four years in prison each for “theft during the night, with multiple offenses and breaking and entering.” The convictions stemmed from their burglary of the Ramada Encore hotel.
This week, the court also ordered the two defendants to share the court costs and serve the sentence without parole.
### Incident Overview
The accused broke into the hotel located in the Malabata area, stealing a number of women’s shoes and items from the hotel offices. Although they managed to leave without detection, one of them returned to the scene and was apprehended by police while still inside the establishment.
During the investigation, the detained suspect confessed to the theft and identified his accomplice from the first break-in.
### Claims of Intoxication
During the trial, the main defendant admitted to breaking into the Ramada Encore but claimed he and his friend were under the influence of alcohol and merely intended to access the hotel’s drinking area, denying any theft occurred.
The two individuals stated they did not break anything and simply entered the hotel to find the bar.
Contradicting their narrative, surveillance footage captured the break-in and theft. The pair also attempted to rob a nearby restaurant, undermining their claims of being unaware and intoxicated during the incident.
