The regional director of equipment and water in the Larache region, Azeddine Ait Talib, stated on Thursday, January 29, that efforts are ongoing in Ksar el Kebir to protect residential areas threatened by floods after the rise in water levels of the Loukos River.
The official explained that work is underway to construct temporary protective barriers to prevent the waters of the Loukos River from reaching the flood-threatened areas in the city. This is a preventive measure aimed at preserving lives and protecting property, ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
The regional authorities in Larache had announced the raising of the maximum state of alert in the city of Ksar el Kebir after the rise in the water level of the Loukos River. This was due to heavy rainfall in the northwestern region of the kingdom.
The regional authorities raised the maximum state of alert for various services, local authorities, security services, the Loukos Water Basin Agency, the regional multi-service company, and the regional directorate for equipment and water. This includes the local council of Ksar el Kebir and some related services, as part of monitoring the situation in the areas at risk of flooding due to the discharge of water from the Abdelmoumen Dam in recent days.
Regional authorities also urged all concerned parties to cooperate responsibly and to remain vigilant and cautious until these exceptional weather conditions have passed.
It is worth noting that the Larache region has experienced significant rainfall, with a cumulative average exceeding 600 mm since last September until yesterday, Wednesday.
This significant rainfall has enabled the filling of the Abdelmoumen Dam to 100 percent capacity.
