The primary criminal court in Tangier issued a sentence of imprisonment for 3 months of actual confinement on a police officer, after convicting him of charges of organizing and facilitating the exit of individuals from the national territory clandestinely.
The police officer “A.A” was apprehended by the royal gendarmerie in the act of transporting undocumented migrants from sub-Saharan countries from Rabat to Tangier. According to what was revealed, the officer had become known for transporting migrants using cars provided to him by his sister.
In contrast to this narrative, the officer claimed that he had never transported any migrants and that the incident during which he was caught occurred “under threat.”
According to the officer, he was on the highway when he was stopped by 4 migrants from sub-Saharan countries who asked him to take them to Tangier. He agreed to this, but was shocked when 6 people boarded against his will.
The officer stated that when he arrived in Tangier, he was threatened with a knife, as the migrants requested him to go to locations from which they planned to migrate, before all of them were arrested.
The officer had been prosecuted on charges of “organizing and facilitating the exit of individuals from Moroccan territory in a clandestine and regular manner,” and in light of this situation, a sentence was issued holding him accountable for the misdemeanor of organizing and facilitating the departure of individuals from the national territory clandestinely according to the first paragraph of Article 52 of Decree 11-11-2003 after reclassification, sentencing him to three months of actual imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 dirhams, while also holding him liable for costs to be paid at a minimum.
