Marrakesh Security Arrests ‘Wanted Internationally’

National security forces at Marrakech Menara Airport detained a 32-year-old French citizen yesterday, Tuesday, who is suspected of involvement in a case related to forgery and the international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.

A security source indicated that the foreign suspect was arrested by border police at Marrakech Menara Airport while in the act of possessing and using a forged passport. Preliminary technical investigations conducted on his mobile phone revealed digital traces suggesting his involvement in criminal activity related to international drug trafficking and psychotropic substances.

He added that the identification check of the individual in the international criminal police organization “Interpol” database showed that he is wanted internationally under a red notice at the request of the central national office in Paris, in order to execute a judicial ruling against him related to his involvement in a case of abduction and detention using violence, in the context of settling scores between drug trafficking networks.

According to the same source, the foreign suspect has been placed under provisional detention pending the judicial investigation being conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, to reveal all the circumstances and details of this case, as well as to determine all criminal actions attributed to the individual.

The source emphasized that the national central office “Interpol Rabat”, affiliated with the General Directorate of National Security, has been tasked with notifying its counterpart in France about the arrest to send the extradition file.

The suspect’s arrest comes in the context of the Moroccan security services’ commitment to activating mechanisms for international security cooperation, especially pursuing and capturing persons wanted internationally for transnational crime cases.
