The Tangier court decided to reclassify the crime from attempted murder and attempted arson with a flammable substance and begging, to “intentional harm to a woman due to her gender with premeditation,” issuing a six-year prison sentence to the accused.
The case is related to a trending issue on social media titled “A beggar throws a flammable substance on a woman to force her to help.”
During the trial this week in Tangier, “Siham. A,” who works in a café in Akzania, admitted to setting the victim on fire, but she confirmed that it concerns a friend of hers and not a passing woman as published and alleged in the reports.
Siham said that she was not in her right mind after taking hallucinogenic pills and alcohol in addition to inhaling adhesive substances, and as a result, she poured a small can full of “Dlio” and then set it on fire, causing injuries to the victim’s neck.
The accused claimed that the victim also uses drugs and that mutual disputes were the cause.
The public prosecution confirmed that the accused was engaging in begging and that she threw “Dlio” on the woman after she refused to give her money, then set her on fire, emphasizing that the reaction was disproportionate and warrants condemnation.
Meanwhile, the defense of the accused attributed her actions to the government and stated that the accused is a divorced woman with children but suffers from homelessness, unemployment, and lack of work, which drove her to engage in and commit this act.
