🔥 Akhannouch Reveals Details of the Major Shift Between Rabat and Madrid in an Interview with “La Razón” Spanish.

The Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, stated in an interview with the Spanish newspaper “La Razon” published on Monday, December 8, that Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, has adopted a firm and just stance on the Sahara issue.

Akhannouch explained that the Moroccan approach is based on diversifying and intensifying partnerships, “placing unwavering support for our complete and indivisible territorial sovereignty at the heart of these partnerships.” He indicated that the recent decision made by the United Nations Security Council regarding the Sahara is a fair and equitable international decision, representing a crucial milestone in the path toward a final settlement of this long-standing artificial conflict.

He also emphasized that this decision places all concerned parties before their responsibilities. It offers them a historic and fair opportunity to build a more harmonious and prosperous regional environment, moving towards a future filled with increasing development, peaceful coexistence, and economic and social well-being in the southern regions.

For the Prime Minister, according to “La Razon,” this decision paves the way for constructive dialogue aimed at reaching a consensus among all parties, with neither victor nor vanquished, preserving the dignity of all parties. This was also affirmed by King Mohammed VI in his recent speech on the occasion of the Throne Day.

Akhannouch stated that what has been accumulated by royal diplomacy over the past 26 years in terms of wisdom, realism, and firmness at national, regional, and international levels has made Morocco today a model of respect and credibility. This has enabled a critical diplomatic shift regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.

In this context, Akhannouch mentioned the strategic rapprochement between Rabat and Madrid concerning the Moroccan Sahara issue, thanks to the clarity and consistency of the Spanish position, in accordance with Security Council resolutions. He considered that this position is an essential element for establishing trust between the two countries and a structural factor for regional stability in the African, Mediterranean, and Atlantic spaces.

When discussing the current state of relations between Morocco and Spain, the Prime Minister confirmed that the partnership between the two countries has witnessed significant stability and a special dynamism in recent years, characterized by trust and mutual respect.

He explained that the political dynamic led by the leaders of the two countries, along with the depth of the ties that bind them, has enabled the establishment of this partnership within a framework of clarity and sustainability, opening the door to enhanced and structured cooperation.

Akhannouch also highlighted the strategic nature of this partnership, pointing out that Spain is currently Morocco’s primary trading partner. Meanwhile, Morocco is the third largest customer outside the European Union and the first customer and supplier for Spain in the African continent. He emphasized that about 800 Spanish companies are established in Morocco, while nearly 12,000 Moroccan enterprises have economic ties with Spain.

The Prime Minister did not overlook the deep human ties that link the two kingdoms, with nearly one million Moroccans residing in Spain, alongside an active Spanish community in Morocco. This reflects a close intertwining of the economic, social, and cultural spaces of both countries.

He also mentioned the comprehensive and balanced approach adopted by Rabat and Madrid in managing the migration issue, which is based on responsible cooperation with countries of origin and transit. It is characterized by joint and effective measures in combating irregular migration and human trafficking networks.

Akhannouch affirmed that the proof of this is the significant success achieved by the high-level meeting Morocco-Spain that took place last week in Madrid, attended by a substantial ministerial delegation from both sides, which concluded with the signing of no less than 14 cooperation agreements in various fields.

He concluded that under the political dynamism led by the leaders of our two nations at the highest level, relations between the two countries today rely on clear political foundations, stable dialogue, and a shared vision characterized by a high degree of responsibility.
