🔥 The Moon is Moving Away from Earth

On November 20, the world will witness a rare astronomical phenomenon as the Moon is expected to be approximately 406,681 kilometers away from Earth, marking the farthest distance in nearly 20 years.

According to data from TimeAndDate, a website specializing in astronomical events, this retreat will be the largest during the Moon’s new phase.

This astronomical event is the third farthest conjunction of the Moon in the 21st century, following a previous occurrence in March 2002. The farthest distance is projected to be recorded in February 2125.

Although the Moon will be in the new phase and not visible to the naked eye due to its position between the Earth and the Sun (with the illuminated side facing the Sun and the dark side facing Earth), this event holds scientific significance as it reflects the Moon’s orbital dynamics and their impact on phenomena like tides.

Astronomer Graham Jones stated that the Moon will reach its maximum distance from Earth at 02:46 UTC on the mentioned date, approximately four hours before the new phase.

While this event will not be visible to observers, it offers an opportunity for a better understanding of the mechanisms of celestial orbits and their effects.
