The Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Kenitra announced that reports regarding the attempted marriage of a minor girl to an adult man without her consent, referred to as “Zawaj Al-Fatiha” in the vicinity of Kenitra, are false.
A statement from the Public Prosecutor explained that, following the circulation of news by various websites and social media platforms about an attempt to marry a girl approximately 14 years old to an older adult without her consent, accompanied by an image of a complaint from a civil society organization, an investigation was ordered. This investigation was assigned to the Judicial Police of the Royal Gendarmerie in Kenitra to verify the accuracy of the claims. The inquiry concluded that the reports were unfounded and that the girl mentioned in the complaint is actually 11 years old, living peacefully with her family and is far removed from these events.
The source further indicated that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for disseminating these false reports across social media platforms, without regard for the privacy of the child and her family. Legal consequences will be determined based on the findings of the investigation.
