Morocco Reports 28 Deaths and Over 3,100 Injuries from Traffic Accidents

During the week from November 10 to 16, 28 people lost their lives and 3,151 others were injured, with 124 sustaining serious injuries, in 2,333 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas.

A statement from the General Directorate of National Security cited the main causes of these accidents, in order of frequency, as driver inattention, failure to respect right of way, excessive speed, failure to maintain a safety distance, pedestrian inattention, lack of control, failure to stop at stop signs, improper lane changes, prohibited turns, driving in the wrong direction, failure to stop at red lights, driving under the influence, driving on the left side of the road, and improper overtaking.

Regarding traffic control and enforcement operations, the same source reported that security services recorded 49,136 violations, completed 8,211 reports submitted to the public prosecutor, and collected 40,925 in fines.

The statement noted that the total amount collected reached 8,883,250 dirhams, with 5,084 vehicles impounded, 8,211 documents confiscated, and 498 vehicles subjected to detention.
