Foreign Residents in Morocco Steal Money by Hacking Online Applications

In coordination with the General Directorate for National Territorial Surveillance, elements of the Judicial Police in Marrakech arrested five foreign nationals on Saturday, November 15. Four of the suspects are from Belarus, while the fifth is French. They are suspected of being involved in tampering with digital data processing systems and hacking online betting applications.

Preliminary investigation data indicate that four of the arrested individuals participated in the hacking of specific betting applications before transferring amounts obtained from this operation to personal accounts. This was allegedly done in collusion with a fifth suspect of French nationality, who was also arrested during a security operation at a villa in the “Tassaltant” area near Marrakech.

Search procedures conducted at the residences used by the suspects in Marrakech resulted in the seizure of computer equipment, storage devices, and internet access. These materials are currently under examination in the Digital Evidence Analysis Laboratory of the National Police.

The suspects have been placed under judicial investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor’s office to uncover the circumstances and details of this case, as well as identify any potential extensions of this criminal activity.
