Unemployment in Morocco decreased by 0.5 percentage points between the third quarter of 2024 and the same quarter of 2025, due to the creation of 164,000 jobs in urban areas and 3,000 in rural areas, totaling 167,000 jobs nationwide.
This job creation is attributed to an increase of 220,000 paid jobs and a decrease of 54,000 unpaid jobs.
The services sector generated 94,000 jobs, the construction and public works sector added 90,000 jobs, and the industrial sector contributed 29,000 jobs. However, the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector lost 47,000 jobs.
The unemployment level decreased by 55,000 individuals, with a reduction of 29,000 in urban areas and 25,000 in rural areas, bringing the total number of unemployed individuals to 1.629 million nationwide.
As a result, the unemployment rate dropped from 13.6% to 13.1% nationally (–0.5 percentage points), from 17% to 16.3% in urban areas (–0.7 percentage points), and from 7.4% to 6.9% in rural areas (–0.5 percentage points). The unemployment rate remains high among youth aged 15 to 24 years (38.4%), women (21.6%), and individuals with degrees (19%). Simultaneously, the number of underemployed individuals increased by 133,000, totaling 1.199 million.
Consequently, the underemployment rate rose from 10% to 11.1% nationally, from 8.8% to 9.5% in urban areas, and from 12% to 13.8% in rural areas.
The activity rate declined between the third quarter of 2024 and the same quarter of 2025, from 43.6% to 43.3% nationally. It decreased from 45.7% to 45.2% in rural areas and from 42.5% to 42.3% in urban areas. The rate also fell from 68.6% to 68.1% among men and from 19.2% to 19.1% among women.
