Morocco Supports 18 Religious Associations in Europe and Canada with 105 Million Dirhams

On Monday, Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Tawfiq, announced in the House of Representatives that, as part of the ministry’s efforts to support the religious guidance of the Moroccan community abroad, 18 associations in Europe and Canada received support amounting to 105 million dirhams this year.

In response to a question regarding the “support for Islamic centers associated with the Moroccan community abroad and enhancing their guiding roles,” Tawfiq highlighted initiatives including the establishment of the Moroccan Scientific Council for Europe, strengthening cooperation with embassies, consulates, and mosque representative associations abroad, and dispatching 372 religious guides during Ramadan to nine countries. Additionally, 345,000 copies of the Quran were provided to mosques and Islamic centers.

The minister also indicated that the ministry is preparing a multi-language religious media program aimed at Moroccans worldwide, emphasizing that the program will be interactive and broadcast daily.

Regarding another question about the “outcomes of the mosque rehabilitation program affected by the earthquake,” Tawfiq reported that 4,959 assessments and studies were conducted to diagnose and determine the necessary works, at a total cost approaching 112 million dirhams. He noted that 901 rehabilitation and repair operations were executed at a total cost of 426 million dirhams.

Furthermore, 1,239 mosques were reopened, 640 alternative prayer locations were provided, and 569 religious officials whose residences were damaged or collapsed were accommodated to ensure the continuity of religious practices in affected areas.
