On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the death of young conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot during an event at Utah Valley University in the western United States.
Trump stated on his platform, Truth Social: “No one understood and cared about young Americans like Charlie,” adding that “he was loved and respected by everyone, especially me. Today he is no longer with us. Melania and I extend our deepest condolences to his wonderful wife, Erika, and his family. Charlie, we love you!”
Kirk, who was 31 years old, was a prominent voice among young Trump supporters and co-founder of the conservative organization Turning Point USA.
A spokesperson for Utah Valley University reported that no suspects had been apprehended as of yet, despite an earlier statement from the institution indicating that police had arrested a suspect.
Before the attack, Kirk had posted a message on X, stating that “Utah Valley University is buzzing with excitement and ready for the first phase of the America comeback tour.”
In response to this incident, President Trump ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff until Sunday evening.
