Saïd in Trouble: Tunisia Denies Israeli Attack, Resilience Fleet Confirms

The Tunisian Ministry of Interior stated in a statement issued early Tuesday, September 9, that reports regarding a drone strike on a ship docked at the Port of Sidi Bou Said are unfounded.

The Ministry indicated that specialized security units examined the aftermath of a fire that broke out in one of the life jackets, which was quickly extinguished, causing no human or material damage, aside from the burning of several jackets, according to the Tunisian News Agency.

The vessel involved in the fire is part of the Freedom Flotilla preparing to sail to Gaza. Participants in the flotilla claimed that the ship was attacked by a drone, suggesting Israeli involvement.

In this context, video clips were shared showing a flaming object falling onto the ship.

Despite the Tunisian Ministry’s denial, the Global Solidarity Flotilla confirmed that one of its main boats, known as the “Family Boat,” which was carrying steering committee members, was attacked by a drone in Tunisian territorial waters.

“The boat is sailing under the Portuguese flag, and all six passengers and crew members are safe. The attack caused fire damage to the main deck and a storage area below deck. An investigation into the incident is currently underway, and any new information will be announced as it becomes available,” stated the flotilla.
