Two African Countries Eliminate Borders for the Movement of People and Goods

Two African nations have decided to lift barriers to the free movement of people and goods to better regulate pastoral mobility. Guinea and Mali have signed an agreement to enhance their security and economic cooperation at the borders.

During a joint meeting chaired by Guinea’s Minister of Security and Civil Protection, Bache Diao, and Mali’s Minister for Malians Abroad and African Integration, Moussa Ag Attahir, the parties discussed several issues primarily related to roadblocks, cross-border crime, and recurring tensions linked to pastoral movement.

The West African countries agreed to strengthen joint surveillance, connect customs systems, impose penalties on those involved in illegal practices, and establish joint committees to resolve community disputes.

Local media reported that the meeting between the officials was an opportunity to explore ways to enhance border cooperation over more than 800 kilometers. They noted that a follow-up session would be held to assess the implementation of the commitments made by both parties.
