Hamas Welcomes France’s Recognition of Palestine
Hamas has expressed its approval of French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement regarding the official recognition of the State of Palestine, describing the move as “positive.” The group called on nations worldwide, particularly in Europe, to follow France’s lead.
In a press statement, Hamas stated, “We consider this announcement a positive step in the right direction to address the plight of our oppressed Palestinian people and to support their legitimate right to self-determination.” The organization emphasized that this action represents significant political support for the Palestinian cause in international forums.
Hamas reiterated its call for “all countries, especially those that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine, to emulate the courageous French position.”
On Thursday, July 24, President Macron announced via his social media accounts that the formal recognition of Palestine would take place during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings in September.
Macron underscored the necessity of “disarming Hamas, ensuring the security of the Gaza Strip, and its reconstruction.” He affirmed that “peace is possible” and reiterated calls for a ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the provision of extensive humanitarian aid.
In contrast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly condemned the French decision, asserting that recognizing Palestine “encourages terrorism” and may lead to the emergence of a new Iranian proxy in the region.
