Court in Tangier Sentences Man for Kidnapping Attempt
The Court of Appeals in Tangier has convicted an individual in a case involving an attempted kidnapping in the Najma area, linked to individuals engaged in drug trafficking in Spain.
The main defendant, identified as “M. A.,” was sentenced to five years in prison for attempting to abduct his former associate in the drug trade.
Additionally, another defendant, “S. A.,” was found guilty of assault and received a four-month suspended sentence.
Drug Trafficking Charges Dismissed
The court also dismissed drug trafficking and possession charges against both men due to the statute of limitations. Furthermore, “S. A.” faced charges for entering Moroccan territory illegally through Ceuta.
Details of the Attempted Kidnapping
The main defendant, “M. A.,” reportedly attacked his former associate, “S. A.,” inside a barbershop in the Najma area of Tangier, attempting to kidnap him with the help of at least two accomplices while physically assaulting him.
“M. A.” attempted to force “S. A.” into a white car but retreated in the face of resistance from bystanders. He later filed a complaint with the Second Police Station, claiming he had also been assaulted.
The victim presented video evidence showing the attempt to forcibly place him in the car and the physical assault he endured.
“M. A.” claimed that “S. A.” was responsible for the incident, asserting that he attempted to engage him in conversation at the barbershop but was met with violence, prompting him to defend himself.
Lawyer’s Admission Complicates Case
The trial witnessed an unusual development when a lawyer publicly acknowledged his client’s involvement in the drug trade, citing it as the source of the conflict between the two men.
Initially, “M. A.” claimed he had sold cars to “S. A.” without payment, while “S. A.” accused “M. A.” of harassment and extortion over his financial success from business projects in Morocco.
