Increase in the Minimum Fare for Tangier Taxis!

Taxi professionals in Tangier have announced that they received approval from the Tangier-Assilah prefecture to increase the minimum fare. However, the prefecture has yet to issue an official decision.

Ahmed El Wahabi from the National Transport Observatory stated to Tanja7 that they were informed of the approval on Monday, June 30. They reviewed the decision, which had the endorsement of Governor Younes El Tazi, on the morning of Tuesday, July 1, during a meeting with numerous representatives from second-category taxi drivers.

The decision specifies that the minimum fare will increase from 5 dirhams to 7 dirhams during the day, and will rise to approximately 10.50 dirhams at night.

Although the officials in the economic department did not formally communicate the decision to the taxi drivers, they indicated that it has taken effect and has also been shared with the relevant security authorities.

According to Tanja7, the decision has not been officially issued yet, which has led many professionals, including Youssef El Faqihi from the Noor Association for Taxi Professionals, to caution against repeating previous instances where the prefecture denied the fare increase after an announcement by a branch of the Moroccan Labor Union.

El Faqihi emphasized that any fare increase should be accompanied by a clear and official decision from the prefecture, especially since taxi operators are required to display the fare structure inside their vehicles.
