Moroccan Economy Reports Increase in Imports in Early 2025
The Moroccan economy experienced a rise in the volume of imports of goods and services during the first quarter of 2025, according to a report from the High Commission for Planning.
Imports grew by 9.8% compared to 7.6% in the same period in 2024, contributing negatively to the growth of the Moroccan economy by 4.7 points, up from a negative contribution of 3.7 points a year earlier.
Exports, on the other hand, showed a slowdown in growth. The growth rate decreased from 5.8% in the first quarter of 2024 to 2.2% in the first quarter of 2025. The contribution to economic growth fell to 0.9 points from 2.5 points in the previous year.
Consequently, foreign trade in goods and services in the first quarter of 2025 reflected a negative contribution to the growth of the Moroccan economy, reaching 3.8 points, compared to a negative contribution of 1.3 points last year.
