Idris Cherfi was appointed as the President of the Court of Appeals in Tangier on Monday, June 30. During his inauguration ceremony, he outlined his vision for implementing judicial reforms aimed at meeting the expectations of citizens and the Moroccan monarch, King Mohammed VI.

In his speech, Cherfi emphasized an ambitious vision designed to ensure justice in Tangier is efficient, transparent, fair, and accessible. He highlighted the importance of issuing rulings within reasonable timeframes.

This vision aligns with the endeavor to enhance the integrity of the judiciary and strengthen its resilience through the neutrality and integrity of its members. These principles are consistent with the objectives of Morocco’s judicial reform efforts.

Cherfi noted that the court serves as a reflection of the judicial system, where the quality of service and the rulings issued represent the overall image of justice. He stressed the significant administrative responsibility of judicial leaders in ensuring smooth operations within their jurisdictions.

He reiterated the crucial role of judicial officials in executing reform decisions by addressing any challenges that hinder timely case resolutions or disrupt the normal functioning of the judiciary.

Cherfi also emphasized the importance of upholding integrity within the judicial sector, stating that a commitment to transparency enhances the judiciary’s reputation and builds public trust.

Call for Collaboration

In his remarks, Cherfi urged adherence to the principles of the Moroccan constitution, which serves as a foundational reference for achieving justice. He underscored the necessity for collaboration among all stakeholders, including the public prosecutor, judges, court staff, lawyers, and local authorities, to achieve these objectives.

This cooperation aims to establish a comprehensive judicial system that serves the public and supports investment, thereby promoting economic and social development in Morocco.

Pursuing Judicial Efficiency

Cherfi reiterated the need to achieve judicial efficiency multiple times, asserting that continuous efforts are required to ensure the delivery of high-quality judicial services that meet citizens’ aspirations and strengthen their confidence in the judicial system.

Such efficiency also fosters investment by providing a reliable and transparent judicial environment, particularly concerning timely rulings and fair law enforcement. This enhances the confidence of both domestic and foreign investors in Morocco’s judicial framework, contributing to national economic growth and attracting investments, reflecting Morocco’s commitment to improving the business climate.
