The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) announced on Friday that it has arrested a 21-year-old female extremist affiliated with the ISIS terrorist organization, following accurate intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance. The arrest occurred while she was attending a technical institute and is linked to her alleged preparations to execute a highly dangerous terrorist plot aimed at disrupting public order.
According to a statement from the BCIJ, the suspect was apprehended in Rabat as part of an operational collaboration and information coordination between the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance and French intelligence agencies. This cooperation enabled authorities to identify her and monitor her extremist plans, effectively thwarting her terrorist project before any physical execution.
Preliminary information from the investigation indicates that the suspect had actively engaged in preparing for terrorist activities, acquiring expertise in explosives and poison production, and obtaining necessary equipment with the intent to carry out an attack targeting a religious site in Rabat.
Search operations conducted in this case revealed that the suspect was in possession of flammable materials, documents promoting extremism, and literature advocating for intolerance and radical ideologies.
The statement confirmed that the suspect has been placed under provisional detention pending an ongoing judicial investigation led by the BCIJ, supervised by the public prosecutor’s office responsible for terrorism-related cases. This investigation aims to uncover the individuals involved in radicalizing her and to assess any potential connections to various terrorist organizations.
This operation underscores the importance and effectiveness of proactive measures taken to counter the threats of terrorism in the country, especially in the face of increased attempts by global and regional terrorist organizations aimed at jeopardizing national security and the safety of citizens. It also highlights the significance of close cooperation between the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance and various security and intelligence services.
