Complaint Filed with the Public Prosecutor’s Office Sparks Crisis Among Ittihad Tanger Members Over 100 Million

The management office of the Ittihad Tangier Football Club filed a complaint two months ago with the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Appeals Court, requesting an investigation into alleged financial irregularities during the tenure of the previous president.

According to available information, the complaint has entered a new phase, with various institutions becoming involved. This development has seemingly contributed to what is referred to as the “members’ crisis.” It prompted former president Mohamed Al-Sharqawi to release a lengthy statement containing serious allegations, including claims of an attempted bribery of 100 million dirhams.

### Content of the Complaint

The complaint, dated April 21, requested an investigation into alleged financial irregularities during the previous presidency. The focus was on public funding expenditures and revenue from sponsorship contracts.

The association supported its complaint with a report from early 2025, wherein a former accountant, “E.A.,” confirmed that accounting documents were handed over to both Mohamed Al-Sharqawi and Anas Al-Mourabit.

According to available information, the management office sought legal recourse after failing to locate several financial documents.

### The “140” Case

Simultaneously with the legal proceedings, the office was taken by surprise when the “140” case was revived as a means to divert attention from the “real file.”

The number “140” refers to the number of members who attempted to join the club during Mohamed Al-Sharqawi’s presidency. However, the list was rejected and contested, lacking approval from the general assembly, and was not recognized by the national football governing bodies due to suspicions surrounding the membership process.

Ittihad Tangier managed to thwart the “members’ revolution” that erupted on the last night of the membership application deadline last Friday. The club decided to extend the period for applications and renewals, emphasizing the need to meet established criteria, including a recent record of good conduct, and confirmed that applications would be processed before approval.

### The 100 Million Allegation

Mohamed Al-Sharqawi quickly joined the fray, claiming on his social media that the ongoing events constituted a “dirty attempt to silence those who oppose your actions.” He criticized an unnamed entity, stating that their actions lacked integrity and involved deceit and betrayal in the name of the law.

Al-Sharqawi alleged that there are individuals attempting to sell the team for personal gain. He claimed this was done by misleading “everyone into believing they were acting on higher orders,” while concealing their personal ambitions to seize the city’s legacy in exchange for a pittance of money and power.

He also claimed he was offered 100 million dirhams to withdraw the approved members from the board he previously led, in an effort to silence the voices of free supporters. He stated that when he refused, the response was swift: a threat to open financial audit files.

### Judicial Authority

In light of the ongoing allegations and accusations, Ittihad Tangier’s current management has opted to pursue legal action to address the concerns.

The management submitted files to the judiciary and potentially to other specialized institutions for independent financial auditing, aiming to investigate and take appropriate action regarding the financial irregularities suffered by the club. Their goal is to hold accountable all those involved in misappropriating the team’s funds, including public money, without hiding behind the name of “Tangier and the Union.”
