King Mohammed VI Condemns Iranian Attack on U.S. Base in Qatar

On June 23, during a phone call with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad, King Mohammed VI of Morocco condemned the Iranian missile attack on Al Udeid Air Base, located in Qatar.

Phone Call

According to Qatar News Agency, Emir Tamim received a call from King Mohammed VI, who expressed Morocco’s solidarity with Qatar. The King strongly denounced the Iranian strike as a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as international law and the United Nations Charter. He emphasized a firm rejection of any aggression that threatens Qatar’s security and stability in the region. The Emir called for restraint and urged diplomatic solutions.

In response, Emir Tamim thanked the King for his sincere sentiments and unwavering support for Qatar and its people.

Morocco’s Official Stance

Earlier, Morocco had also expressed its strong condemnation of the missile attack against Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace. The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited complete solidarity with Qatar in a statement released on the same day, affirming its commitment to Qatar’s safety and the well-being of its citizens.

Details of the Iranian Attack

On the evening of June 23, Iran launched a missile attack on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, reportedly in retaliation for U.S. strikes targeting its nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan the previous day. This attack directly targeted the largest U.S. military base in the region, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, and raising concerns about a potential regional war.

Background of Rising Tensions

Tensions in the Middle East had been escalating since an Israeli attack on Iran on June 13, which targeted military leaders and nuclear scientists. In response, Iran retaliated by launching missiles and drones at Israel, leading to mutual casualties. Amid these developments, the United States decided to intervene directly, with President Donald Trump authorizing the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons. The U.S. described this operation, involving B-2 bombers and Tomahawk missiles, as precise and successful, while Iran termed it a “blatant aggression,” vowing a decisive response.

Details of the Attack on Al Udeid Base

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that the operation, dubbed "Operation Basharat Al-Fath," was executed using precise ballistic missiles targeting U.S. forces. The base, located west of Doha, serves as a strategic command center for U.S. Central Command, hosting thousands of troops and managing air operations in the area. Reports indicate that Iran had informed Qatar in advance of its intentions, allowing the United States to evacuate some of its military assets. Qatar briefly closed its airspace and instructed citizens and residents to stay in safe places.

While Qatari authorities have not released comprehensive details about any damage, U.S. sources reported limited impact due to defensive systems like the Patriot missile system. There have been no reported casualties so far, but the situation remains uncertain.
