The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has announced a missile attack on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest American military base in Western Asia.
This operation was described as a response to recent U.S. airstrikes targeting three key Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The U.S. President Donald Trump had announced these strikes on June 22, 2025.
### Background of the Conflict
The current crisis escalated following increased tensions between Iran and Israel, which launched a surprise attack on Iran on June 13, 2025, targeting military leaders and nuclear scientists. In retaliation, Iran fired ballistic missiles and drones at Israel, resulting in casualties on both sides. Amidst this escalation, the United States chose to intervene directly by bombing Iranian nuclear facilities to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Trump characterized the operation as “highly successful,” utilizing B-2 stealth bombers and Tomahawk missiles to destroy sensitive sites. However, Iran, denying any nuclear contamination at its facilities, viewed the U.S. attack as a violation of its sovereignty and opted for military retaliation.
### Attack on Al Udeid Air Base
The Revolutionary Guard stated that the attack on Al Udeid, named “Basharat al-Fath” (Good Tidings of Victory), was carried out using a barrage of ballistic missiles aimed at deterring U.S. aggression. Located near the Qatari capital Doha, this base serves as a crucial hub for U.S. Central Command operations in the region. According to the Iranian statement, the operation was conducted under the oversight of the Quds Force and with approval from the Supreme National Security Council. The statement emphasized that this attack signifies the end of the “hit and run” policy and threatened more strikes should U.S. attacks persist.
Media reports indicate that Iran informed Qatar in advance of its intention to target the base, prompting the U.S. to partially evacuate military aircraft before the attack. Qatar temporarily closed its airspace “to ensure the safety of citizens and residents.” Meanwhile, the U.S. embassy in Doha issued a warning for American citizens to stay indoors. However, Qatari authorities have not yet provided an official statement regarding the damage or casualties resulting from the attack.
