On Sunday, June 22, a significant international drug trafficking attempt was thwarted, resulting in the seizure of 92.9 kilograms of cocaine. This operation took place at the Guerguerat border crossing, located south of Dakhla.
Through border monitoring and inspection procedures, authorities discovered the drugs meticulously concealed in the fuel tank compartments of a truck registered in Morocco, which was coming from a sub-Saharan African country. Additionally, the 25-year-old truck driver was apprehended on suspicion of involvement in this operation.
A preliminary investigation has been initiated under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to uncover the circumstances surrounding the cocaine smuggling attempt and to identify all individuals involved. This investigation will also assess the broader implications of these criminal activities, both within Morocco and on regional and international levels.
This joint operation is part of ongoing and intensified efforts by various security agencies at the Guerguerat border crossing to combat international drug trafficking and other cross-border crimes.
