On Wednesday, Fouzi Lekjaa, the Minister Delegate for Budget and president of Morocco’s Royal Football Federation (FRMF), stated that Morocco’s performance in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup is a testament to the nation’s long-term investment in youth and sports development under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
During a meeting with the Public Finance Control and Governance Committee at Morocco’s House of Representatives, Lekjaa emphasized that Morocco has demonstrated to the world that young people can excel in leadership roles when offered the right resources.
He connected the national team’s progress to a broader strategic vision established years ago in Morocco.
Lekjaa noted that the foundation of Morocco’s football initiative was laid following a royal message to the first National Sports Conference, further strengthened by projects like the Mohammed VI Football Academy and ongoing investments in football development throughout the country.
A Newfound ‘Culture of Victory’
Additionally, Lekjaa asserted that the recent achievements of the Atlas Lions on the global stage highlight that Morocco is “not far from global leadership,” stating that a “culture of victory” has become well-established within the national team.
All members of the national team understand the gravity of their responsibilities and are committed to fulfilling the expectations of King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan populace throughout their World Cup journey, according to the FRMF president.
He added that both players and coaching staff are dedicated to progressing “as far as possible” in the tournament.
The minister also expressed appreciation to King Mohammed VI for his unwavering support and attention toward Moroccan football, noting that this backing serves as a continual source of motivation for both the federation and the national team.
Morocco is set to continue its World Cup campaign in the Round of 16, following their penalty success against the Netherlands earlier this week.
