The Kingdom of Morocco and Denmark agreed to establish the foundations of security cooperation between the two countries during a meeting that brought together the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, and Mikael WERN, the head of the police and the national unit specialized in combating organized crime in Denmark, on Tuesday, January 27, of the current year.
The agenda of this meeting addressed a number of security issues of common interest, including evaluating the level of bilateral cooperation in combating transnational organized crime networks and the movements of terrorist organizations at both regional and international levels, as well as strengthening coordination mechanisms in the field of tracking, pursuing, and extraditing wanted persons from both sides internationally.
This meeting also provided an opportunity for both parties to emphasize the importance of advancing security cooperation between the two countries, during which arrangements were made to establish an institutional and legal framework that allows for strengthening cooperation between the National Security and Territorial Surveillance services in Morocco and their counterparts in Denmark, particularly regarding the exchange of expertise, technical assistance, the enhancement of joint police training programs, and the strengthening of operational cooperation.
In this context, the two parties agreed on the priority to soon sign a joint memorandum of understanding, as a reference framework for bilateral cooperation, which will form the basic entry point for building robust security cooperation, reflecting the increasing importance of the Kingdom of Morocco as a key and reliable partner within the international system for combating crime, terrorism, and extremism.
This meeting falls within the context of the commitment of the General Directorate of National Security and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance to enhance its international partnerships with various security agencies in friendly and brotherly countries, as well as to open up to new international and regional partners.
