The Court of Appeal in Tangier issued a prison sentence of 5 years of enforced detention for a young man, after he was convicted on charges of assault and battery, use of a weapon leading to permanent disability, throwing stones, and insulting an official while performing his duties.
The case relates to an incident in which a secondary institution on the outskirts of Tangier was attacked with stones months ago, but the trial revealed that the “director of the secondary school” lost his testicles during the altercation, as confirmed by the public prosecutor’s representative during the trial session on Tuesday, January 13.
The public prosecutor’s representative requested the harshest penalties for the defendant, emphasizing that he caused the director an injury that led to the removal of his testicles, which is a permanent disability that cannot be repaired.
What Happened?
According to the case file, a fight broke out among students at the secondary school, prompting some of them to seek assistance from outsiders, including “the defendant,” who came to the vicinity of the institution where he participated in throwing stones and caused injury to the director in his genitalia, according to a testimony from a security guard.
For his part, the young man denies the accusations, confirming that he only wanted to offer assistance when he witnessed the acts of violence at the school, denying any assault on the director or anyone else.
His defense, for its part, argued that the accusations are not based on evidence and that the claims that the stones thrown originated from “his client” are unsubstantiated and difficult to verify, pointing out the existence of some suspects, including a person described as short-statured, who may indeed be the actual aggressor.
The relatives of the accused denied his involvement in the fight, stating that he was in the area to collect his pay from a factory adjacent to the secondary school, and that his only mistake was his desire to provide assistance, which, according to them, embroiled him in this case.
Compensations
In addition to holding the accused accountable for the charges against him, it was also decided that he must pay compensation to the director amounting to 150,000 dirhams, and compensation to the regional education academy and the local directorate amounting to 30,000 dirhams.
