Secretaries General Praise King Mohammed VI’s Collaborative Approach

The secretaries general of national political parties represented in both chambers of Parliament praised King Mohammed VI’s participatory approach to refining and updating the autonomy initiative for Moroccan Sahara.

In statements to the press following a meeting convened by royal order and chaired by the king’s advisors—Tayeb Faisal Fihri, Omar Azziman, and Fouad Ali El Himma—party leaders emphasized the king’s continual commitment to involving a collaborative approach in addressing major national issues.

Aziz Akhannouch, leader of the National Rally of Independents, highlighted the importance of this meeting, which included the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad. He expressed gratitude to the king for consulting political parties on significant national matters, indicating that the party will develop a vision concerning the future of the national issue in relation to UN Resolution 2797.

Fatima Zahra Mansouri, coordinator of the collective leadership of the National Rally of Independents, reiterated her party’s commitment to the participatory approach led by King Mohammed VI to define and refine the autonomy proposal.

She expressed the party’s pride in the progress regarding the Moroccan Sahara and the autonomy initiative, as well as gratitude to the king for his collaborative approach with political parties.

Nizar Baraka, Secretary General of the Istiqlal Party, noted that the meeting focused on the essential theme of refining and detailing the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty. He described UN Resolution 2797 as historic and underscored that Morocco is entering a new phase in which it will present a detailed and updated autonomy initiative as a basis for negotiations to resolve the ongoing dispute over Moroccan Sahara, promoting regional stability and development.

Idriss Lachgar, First Secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces, stressed the necessity for political parties to provide an updated and detailed vision of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty, emphasizing the importance of building on Morocco’s experience in advanced regionalization.

Mohamed Ouzin, Secretary General of the Popular Movement, commended the consultative and participatory nature of the meeting, noting the king’s commitment to a collaborative approach regarding societal and national issues. He remarked that the meeting addressed various aspects related to refining the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty.

Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah, Secretary General of the Progress and Socialism Party, asserted that political parties are invited to submit detailed memoranda on their visions for the autonomy initiative and that his party will strive to contribute meaningfully to this topic. He pointed out that Morocco has entered a decisive phase requiring mobilization from all active forces to move forward with confidence and determination.

Mohamed Jodar, Secretary General of the Constitutional Union, expressed gratitude to the king for including all parliamentary parties in preparing a memorandum that outlines their perspectives on the autonomy initiative. He added that this important meeting follows UN Resolution 2797, which affirmed the validity of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty.

Abdelilah Benkirane, Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party, confirmed that today’s meeting, on royal orders, aims to involve political parties in formulating a vision for refining and detailing the autonomy initiative within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty. He emphasized that political parties will fulfill their responsibilities in this matter.

Furthermore, Nabila Mounib, a parliamentary representative of the Unified Socialist Party, underscored that following UN Resolution 2797, the national issue has made a significant step forward, necessitating a comprehensive national vision to find a solution benefiting the entire Maghreb region. She noted that a comprehensive vision for detailing and updating the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty could ensure the return of brethren from Tindouf camps to their homeland.
